Static for Sustainability: Two Case Studies of Leaving Drupal Behind

What happens when your web-based digital research project is done? If you built it using Drupal, you can't just walk away -- someone has to keep maintaining the site indefinitely. This has been a dilemma for digital humanities projects for decades, and the ending is often a sad one: the site goes unpatched, gets hacked, must be taken down, and there are no resources to stand it back up. This talk covers two very different Drupal-based projects: one, a catalogue raisonné of Jan Brueghel, and another, a sourcebook of translated medieval texts.

Matching Algorithm implementation using Drupal Framework

Matching is a very common process used in academia for classes, clinics, summer trips, etc.  We built several Drupal-based applications, and decided to create a stand-alone module for this process. In this session we will talk about how our module implements solutions to a Stable Marriage Problem https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stable_marriage_problem

We will go through objects/relationships/code and demo how our applications are using this module.

Tools for capturing and tracking researcher publications

Every researcher has to work with list of publications.  What are tools that can make this work less tedious and more efficient?

We will talk about PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, provide very useful tips for searching for publications, tools for integration with MS Word and your websites.

Is your website beautiful?

UX design methods tend to focus entirely on usability testing, but usability is just one of many product attributes that impact the user. If we want to holistically improve the UX of a product, we should expand our methods and test additional attributes, such as look and feel. In this talk, I will present methods I employed to examine the visual appeal of academic library websites. I will share what I learned during this study, like design elements that have a powerful impact on visual appeal and the do's and dont's of altering UX study methods.

Rich data management and publishing on websites - via zoom

Data has been growing at a rapid pace for last few decades; much of it resides on file servers. However, there is a growing need to make some of this data available over the web that may be consumed via either a web browser or via API. I will discuss managing and publishing data as first class content on websites that goes beyond displaying data as a list of files  and folders. I'll describe our new system that incorporates annotation, discussion, visualization and is extensible.
